Before & After Redesign
Today I would like to share with you a DeClutter Angel Home Redesign project based in Isham, Northamptonshire, where a 24ft lounge was transformed completely. I will show you before, during and after photos and also detail the products used to create the effect. You will see with this example that you can achieve a look similar seen in a “House & Garden” magazine without spending tens of thousands of pounds…
BEFORE
The lounge was looking a little out-dated and tired, with an aged style, a mis-matched patterned carpet and a fireplace which was off the scale in comparison to the room, the work was cut out here!
The brief was clear, the room was to be clean, contemporary, spacious yet homely and practical for a well-used home with older children.
STRIPPING OUT
In order for the project to get underway the room was emptied, carpet, dado rails, wallpaper and light fittings were removed and huge fireplace carefully chipped away so the beautiful stone bricks could be kept for the owners to use for another project.
DECORATING
Once made good, the walls were painted with Dulux “Snowfall” around the three main walls, a darker colour of Dulux “Potters Wheel” was used on the lightest wall around the patio doors, and ceiling re-painted white. The floor and skirting were then fitted with a dark oak solid wood by Neagle Flooring and new wall light fittings installed (re-using the orginal electrical lighting locations), purchased from B&Q.
FURNITURE & SOFT FURNISHINGS
The sofa was the main centre piece of the room in white leather and seated 7 people, it was a song from Ebay at just under £1000 and created that dramatic contemporary look. With glass side tables for placing drinks etc.
A 100% wool purple, rose design rug was laid in-front of the sofa from Dunelm, voile purple curtain sections from Ikea were hung floor to ceiling completely across the wall to the patio doors (in sections so they could be opened at will) and were left to swirl slightly on the wood floor.
To warm up the room further, more texture was added with the fury cushions on the sofa in different sizes in both white and purple.
Purple and red ornaments were added to continue the colour trace throughout the room, the red was introduced to give some interest and take the formality out of the room and mimicked in the paintings. The ornaments were added in singular or 3’s on the black furniture.
A small purple chaise and matching suede Potenza chair were placed to add length, height and gravitas to the room.
A free standing lamp from B&Q was placed in the corner of the room for a good evening light balance.
MEDIA
The 55” TV was hung on the main focal wall with all unsightly wires hidden within the walls. For practicality, some Ikea shiny black furniture was placed below the TV as a media centre for a recordable multimedia box, games and DVDs.
