Declutter FAQ's

Q: What is Decluttering?

A: Decluttering is a professional service that helps you to sort through your belongings, identify any items that you no longer love or need in your life, and organise and create homes for the things that you do love and need. You will not have to throw everything out, the decision of what stays and what goes is yours. My role is purely to support you in the process of making these decisions.

Q: Do you throw away my belongings?

A: The decision is yours whether or not to keep or throw out an item.

Q: Mine might be the worst clutter you have ever seen?

A: Probably not!

Q: My house is such a mess I am too embarrassed to have you here…

Please don't be embarrassed. I am purely here to help you, not judge you. The hardest part is picking up the phone.

Q: Do I have to declutter with you?

A: I need you to be there to decide what stays and what goes. You know how you like to live and use your spaces, therefore you will have the best insight into what you want. Everything that happens, is your decision. I will give you ideas as we go through each step, and together we will get the job done. Going through this process will help teach you how to maintain your home to help prevent a build-up of clutter in the future.

Q: How do you charge for decluttering services

A: I charge an hourly rate of £30. Discounts are available for longer projects.

After decluttering you will spend less of your valuable time searching for things you have lost, less energy cleaning and tidying around your clutter and less money buying things you already have. You might even find things you can sell.

Ultimately, the benefits of being organised, feeling less stressed and being in control of your environment again are priceless.

Q: How do you ensure confidentiality

A: I offer a completely private and confidential service.  I do not have any advertising logos on my person and will never discuss my clients with a third party unless agreed. Occasionally, I may ask if I can take before and after photographs but this is entirely your choice.  I am also ICO registered.

Q: How long does it take?

A: Decluttering sessions normally take around 5 hours - the minimum time is 3 hours if you are in my local area.  There is no set time on how long a whole project will take as it varies. It all depends on how much needs to be done and also how quickly you can make a decision. We can normally make great progress together in a day.

Q: How do you know where to start

A: I always like to start in the area which is causing you the most difficulty, this will then give inspiration to tackle other areas.

There is no set plan on how we will move forward until I completely understand your needs, from here we can work together to fit my expertise around your objectives to tailor-make a plan that works for you.

Q: Should I buy new storage?

A: Please do not buy anything before I arrive, often people have what they need already and just need some help with how to organise and use it, if not I can help with suggestions of what may be most useful to you.

Q: What do you need from me?

A: An open mind is all I need and uninterrupted time (ideally without any lovely little ones around so we can be focused and use our time most effectively).  From here we can tackle the toughest areas, develop some processes that work for you and then move on to other areas of concern.

Q: What happens to the stuff I no longer require?

A: Any items that you choose to get rid of will be recycled wherever possible using local charity shops. You may also find you have things you can sell and I am able to provide advice on how to go about this. I am not able to take unwanted items to the tip for you due to Waste Carrier legislation but can take items to the charity shop and will assist you to dispose of things as we declutter.

Q: How will I stay decluttered?

A: I hope that you will feel inspired and motivated to maintain the organisational systems we have put into place during our time together but sometimes life just gets in the way! I can offer a maintenance package to keep you in control where I can arrange regular visits to help you stay organised or relieve the stress of things piling up.

Part of being organised is realising when to take action to get things back in the order that makes sense to you. Remember, being organised is not being perfect. It is being in control of your home so you can find what you want, when you want.

Q: Do you organise anything else?

A: Yes, I am happy to look at organising anything you need help with please just ask me and I will let you know what I can do.

Q: Are you insured?

A: Yes, I have public liability and professional indemnity insurance of up to £1,000,000.

Q: Are you equivalent DBS / CRB checked?

A: Yes I am Basic Disclosure checked

Q: How do we get started?

A: Give me a call: 07948 529 587.  Following a phone consultation to discuss your needs we can arrange an appointment to come to see your home and the space you are looking to organise and get started. All decluttering sessions are done together as it is always your decision what to keep and what to let go.
